A Separate Peace by John Knowles
At a private school for boys, in Vermont, in the summer of 1943, the war rages and the boys prepare to ship off, but before they do, they play -- sometimes it's taken too far.
It's a short read and talks about the emotional struggles faced by adolescents. The characters in the book take on different aspects of growing up from care-free and wild to dutiful. Many people have spoken highly about this book, but while I can see the fine writing skills of Mr. Knowles, I did not prefer this book. It is a book for teenagers and I would recommend it to them.
